When Experience Johnson was born in 1720 in New Jersey, her father, Joseph, was 45. She married Samuel Gouverneur of New York in 1728. They had three surviving children during their marriage: Gertrude (1740-1806), Nicholas (1753-1802), & Mary (1755-1810). Experience died in 1788 at the age of 67.
